Oakland Key's Take On Why He Runs And Why He Created Entertainers Treasury

When You Love Running So Much That You Make Artwork Of It. 😆
Good Afternoon Everyone! A Friend Of Mine Recommended I Share My Story Of Why I Started Running And Started The Business 'Entertainers Treasury' In The First Place. What Follows Can Hopefully Entertain And Definitely Be Something All Of Us Runners Out There Can Relate To. Enjoy!
Why Running?
The Feeling Of Accomplishment After A Hard Run Is Unbeatable. It's Interesting To Think, When You Start Running, It Seems So Hard At First; The First Time You Try To Run A Mile, The First Time You Try To Keep A Certain Pace, The First IT-Band Injury You Get (Because, Of Course). But Then You Look Back After You've Crossed All Those Distances Off Your List, 5K, 10K, Half-Marathon, Marathon; And You Can Only Think, "Funny How I Couldn't Even Run Down The Street When I Started." It's A Strange Yet Very Fulfilling Sense Of Pride You Get When You Accomplish Another Goal, And Realize That All Those Barriers That Were Set Before You Were Really Only Imagined From The Start. Running Is Also A Very Freeing Sport. You Can Literally Run Wherever You Want And Whenever You Want. You Don't Need A Team Of People Or Referees Or A Scoreboard. You Just Put On Your Shoes And Go. I'm Very Glad To Know That Most Runners I've Gotten To Know Over The Years Are Really Cool People. Like I Said, You Can Run Alone If You Want To, Because You Don't Need Anyone But Yourself; But It's Always Way More Fun To Join A Group.
Why Do You Think Most Runners Are Cool People?
Humility. That's One Thing I've Noticed Is Consistent In The Running Community. I Mean, It's Really Interesting For Me To Think That I've Met Many Runners Over The Years Who (For Lack Of A Better Way Of Saying It) Actually Brag About Not Being The Fastest Or Best Runner To Ever Exist. 11 Years After Picking Up Running, I Still Can't Think Of Any Other Sport Where You'd Ever Hear Someone Say Something Like That.
Other Really Great Things I've Noticed About Most Of The Runners Out There Is That They're Very Inclusive. Every Running I've Gone To Has Always Been A Question Of "Who's Doing What Today" Followed By, "Ok, See You When You Get Back!" Instead Of Something Very Rigid, Or Where You'd Be Excluded From The Group Because You Didn't/ Couldn't Do Something Everyone Else Could.
Why Did You Start Your Own Company?
After Getting Terminated From A Job In A Large Tech Company, I Realized That If I Was Ever Going To Achieve The Things I Wanted To Achieve In Life (Traveling, Realizing Those Childhood Dreams, Securing A Spot In The New York City Marathon), I Was Going To Need To Work For Myself. It WAs At That Moment That I Realized Working In A Cubicle Wasn't Working For Me, I Felt Like I Was Just Shoved Into A Black Box Every Day. So I Decided To "Break Out Of The Black Box" And Try My Own Thing. I Had Been Told My Whole Life That I Was Very Creative, So, When A Friend From One Of My Running Groups Recommended I Start My Own Business, I Was Like, "Why Not?"
Anything Else That Makes Running Worthwhile?
Beer. Or At Least A Bagel And Banana At The Finish Line.
